The Texas Swing Band Festvial Recovery!

AHHHH, where can I start. What a weekend Valentines was. What it was, was The Texas Western Swing Band Festival and Valentine’s Dance.

It started on Thursday, Feb. 11th (also my husband’s birthday), and lasted til Saturday, Feb 13th. It was from 10am to 10 pm each day and non stop fiddling, singing, dancing, screaming at each other over the music til your throat is raw, Sh__ Kickin’ great time. You can fill in the blank, I’m sure.

I have just about got Gene Autry’s song, DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS, out of my head. It sneaks back in when you least expect it. And then, there were the Quebe Sisters. They played the fiddles and played them very well. They were also fabulous singers, but an hour and a half of non stop fiddling just made my eardrums vibrate so weirdly that, I fear, they will never be the same again, and neither will my hearing. The piercing noise in my head has just about subsided. On the upside, I do believe the fiddling cleared all the wax out of my ears. Truly amazing!

I may never be the same again. I’ve got Texas in my soul now. These were the neatest people who came to the Festival. There were RVs all over the place. People came in from other states. Everyone is always friendly here and speaks to you whether you ever laid eyes on them or not. You could lay money out on a table and no one would take it. If you could take the mindset of all these people and implant it in everyone on the planet, the world would be a better place to live.

It was in the Civic Center.  We went there to sell my book and the bionic band that has helped my tremors and staggering from this neurological disease. I also have much more energy.

Our booth was directly across from the bands, the dance floor was in between and the food was to the left of us. We had everything we needed right there, except a bed of course. Lots of couples were on the dance floor every day and us vendors danced in the aisle. People were doing the slide and bobbing up and down instead of walking around. It was just the greatest thing. I love to dance, but have never done any Western Swing, but I’m willing to learn.

Anyway, we’re going back for more this weekend to do First Monday. I did my first book signing  the last weekend in January. I’ll be doing it every month for a while anyway. This one won’t have any bands to dance to, but we do meet people from all over the country. I’m kinda glad I created this book business since I’ve retired.

Have a wonderful week.

Lordy! Lordy Fran! Sounds like you really got your YeeHaa on! Belated Happy Birthday to Tom. Did you get him to dance? If yes, that would explain the disturbance in the force we felt this weekend.

Yeah, my YeeHaa was Hee Haw. Of course Tom didn’t dance but I made up for it boot scootin’ down the vendor’s aisles. Everybody was boogying by instead of walking…lot’s of fun and plenty of noise. Fun was had by all.

With your southern drawl I find it hard to believe you never did western swing. Thanks for the pep talk yesterday. LOVE YOU!

What Southern drawl? I’m half Yankee! Ya’ll just come on down here and I’ll introduce you to some southern drawl. Wish you could. Wish you would.
Your welcome for the pep talk. What pep talk?
The only time I ever did any kind of Western anything was in Memphis in the 80s with a cowboy who had just moved there from Houston. OOPS! That didn’t sound right. I mean a western dance. It was something in a circle and the dancefloor was over crowded with drunk dancers screaming B#@$ S@%#$# and kicking their leg out as they screamed it. I got kicked square in my butt and I do mean IN my butt with a pointed toe boot on the end of a long legged girl. That finished me off from any kind of group dancing. I’ll just stay with my own free style, thank you. Besides I never like rules anyway and when you do group dances you have to follow the leader. I’m lousy at that. I’d rather lead.
